What the Animal Index is
In Backflip for Animals!, the Animal Index (collection / discovery tracker) records animals you have hatched or registered and offers claimable milestones as your catalog grows. It sits beside daily login, playtime rewards, group reward, and the spin wheel as free value that does not require a successful Legendary steal.
Exact UI labels can shift after patches. If your build calls it Collection, Index, or Dex, the job is the same: register species, claim rewards, and use the payout to buy Speed or plot upgrades. Cross-check live labels after updates on Updates.
Why index claims matter
Incremental simulators hide a lot of power in “small” reward panels. Index claims often grant cash, eggs, or tickets that fund:

How to fill the Index efficiently
- Steal across biomes you can actually clear. New zones introduce new guardians and egg pools — Biomes Map.
- Hatch everything once for discovery credit, even if you later sell duplicates — Hatch Mutations.
- Watch mutation variants. Some indexes treat mutated forms as separate entries; others only track base species. Check whether a shiny/mut nameplate adds a new slot before you fuse it away.
- Do not rush Legendary solely for Index FOMO. Failed steals cost time; farm the highest safe biome that still drops unregistered animals.
- Claim milestones immediately when the button lights up so a disconnect cannot eat the reward.
Session checklist
At the start and end of every play session:
- Open Animal Index / Collection.
- Claim every ready milestone.
- Note which biomes still show missing silhouettes.
- Plan 3–5 steals aimed at those gaps if Speed allows — How to Steal Eggs.
- Hatch, place, then re-open Index to confirm new registrations.
- Spend claim cash using the spend order in How to Make Money.

Index vs income tier list
The Index cares about discovery. The Animals Tier List cares about earnings. Those goals overlap early (every new pet helps) and diverge later (you may keep a weak unique solely for Index completion while a stronger duplicate earns cash).
Practical split:
- Early game: Place everything; Index and income rise together.
- Mid game: Keep unique Index entries until claimed; sell weak duplicates for cash.
- Late game: Prioritize high earners on slots; park low earners only if you still need discovery credit and have spare slots.
Never fuse your last copy of an unregistered mutation if the Index still shows it missing.
Mutations and the Index
Mutation rolls can create nameplates that look like new species. Before fusing or selling:
- Open the Index and search for the base and mutated labels.
- If the mutated form is a separate entry, hatch/place once to register it.
- Only then decide fuse/sell using Hatch Mutations.
Script Auto Sell toggles are especially dangerous here — they can dump an unregistered mutation before you claim. Read Scripts if you use hubs on an alt.
Biome hunting for missing entries
Use the biome ladder as a checklist, not a speedrun:
Savannah → Swamp → Safari → Canyon → Arctic → Mountains → Dinosaur → Deep Sea → Mythical → Legendary.
For each zone:
- Confirm Speed is high enough for consistent steals.
- Grab eggs until new silhouettes stop appearing.
- Return home, hatch, claim Index progress.
- Upgrade plot/Speed as needed before the next zone.
This orderly pass fills the Index faster than random Legendary attempts with empty slots.
